Yeah right, the Oilers are fine with picking where they are. We are going to get Ekblad or Draisaitl at that spot.

Don't see the leverage there. Oilers can pick a defenceman next draft. Going to look up Mock 2015 draft ranking now.....

I wonder if the this could happen.

oilers trade up with the panther for the 1st for the 3rd over all + a good player.
then flip it for the 8th over all + "A" prospect or roaster player.

ah to dream is nice.

Im going to tell you this right now. I think the draft is going to go like this for the top 5.

1 Sam Reinhart

2 Sam Bennett

3 Leon Draisaitl

4 Aaron Ekblad

5 Michael DalColle

Just remember this order 3months from now.

Define what a "good player" is. I think you overestimate the value you could get for dropping down a mere two picks. For an example of such, see what the Penguins gave up to move up to 1 from 3 to pick MAF:

The Penguins acquired the first overall pick in a trade that sent the 1st and 73rd overall picks to the Penguins in exchange for Mikael Samuelsson, and the 3rd and 55th picks.

So that's 1st ovr and a 3rd round pick for the 3rd ovr, a 2nd round pick, and Mikael Samuelsson (27 yr old NHL journeyman at the time). Is that what you're expecting?

I never realized they traded up for that pick. In hindsight it was still good deal maf in the regular season is great and when they won the cup he was phenomenal.

Sounds like Buffalo has their eyes on Draisaitl so Edmonton won't get him at 3.

i also can't imagine florida passing up ekblad.

beyond gudbrandson and kulikov (who might not be with the team next year), they're thin and pretty old on the back end.

they have tons of good young forwards, but very little on defense........i'd be SHOCKED if they didn't take Ekblad.

I think edmonton is gonna get one of the Sam's

"It's not at all absurd. Moulson, Charra, Luongo come to mind rather quickly. Yeah, nobody wants to play in an area of 70 degree weather, 45 minutes to south beach, and no luxury tax. Beautiful arena, beautiful practice facility. I'd rather look at shiytty Uniondale, and then play in a arena that has no business housing a hockey team in Brooklyn. I'm sure Viola could have bought the Isles since he probably knew of Wangs intention to sell, he came here, where the future is better, and a team that doesn't have to be the beat up step sister to the NYR."
Panthersgoal

This from your last thread. Guessing you're a bit young bud? Moulson? We didn't want to resign him that's why he was traded. He is not even close to being worth what he was looking for and just about all Isles fans are not disappointed to see him go. Not happy with the trade or the return of course but Moulson is not a good example for your point. I'm no fan of Snow but as far as Luongo and Chara go you're bringing up players from a different regime that were traded due to an owner that had zero money. Your Brooklyn comment is absurd. They are moving to a state of the art of facility in Brooklyn and you find reason to criticize that too? Reaching a bit maybe? Not to insult here because I'm someone who always cheers for you guys and you have some good posters on this thread but compare our history to yours and our present team to yours. If you think you're ahead of the curve with our present team you're blind. As far as your Viola comment goes are you nuts? You guys can barely sell a ticket and you have tickets that go for 8 bucks and come with a hotdog and a beer. Gimme a facking break. Future is better? looooool. Before injuries we had two of the top 5 scorers in the league. Tavares alone forget about Strome, Nelson, Lee, Okposo, and Nielsen makes our future better and brighter forget about Dehaan and every one of our blue chip defensive prospects. As far as living in "sunny" Florida and south beach and players lining up to go there I lived in SB for two yrs and Islamarado for a year. Nice place to visit but I'm back in NY. Yeah no player wants to live in NYC or beautiful LI where you have the Hamptons and the greatest city in the world. They'd rather go to Florida. lol. Your post was way off base and quite frankly you're in no position to say jack shat about ANY team in this league under the circumstances. Congrats to you guys on winning the draft btw and think before you post next time.

Not sure honestly? It's funny bcs half the people on this site say trade it and the other half say dump it and both our convinced they're a 100% right. Ive come to the conclusion this is one decision I couldn't criticize either way.

i think the islanders are likely going to be picking in the top 10 again next year.......barring some really big changes in the offseason..........i think even the chance of getting mcdavid is worth maybe slipping from 5 this year, to maybe 8 or 9 next year. I'm not convinced that the player you get at 5 this year, will necessarily be better than the player taken between 8-10 next year.

but that's just my opinion.

Yeah its a tough call really. If snow feels he could get a legit starter and a top 4 we wont be in the top ten even with our moron coach. Team is not far off at all really. The question is can Snow get those players? Its not much but I have my doubts but if he feels he can he will keep this yrs. Moving to Brooklyn will also be a factor meaning there will be more of a win now mentality whether its right or not is a whole other debate in itself.

Who said ekblad was going to be a franchise dman? Tim Murray said he likely won't. Start of the year he was projected as a second pairing guy per Mackenzie. Ekblad likely turns into a 2 or 3 as he developed this year. Not that I wouldn't pick him but my preference is a centre.

We have nurse, klefbom, and marincin. Why in the hell would we offer up hall (80 points), eberle, nuge or yak and our 3rd overall for two spots? Terrible. Talk about overpayment of epic proportions.

Oilers are starved for a big 2C aka draisaitl. Hell even Bennet.

Stop listening to tsn or espn that say oilers need defense so they pick ekblad. We need established dmen not another 18 year old.

i think projections for most players in this draft are pretty much: 2nd pairing, average 2nd liner, good 3rd liner, etc)

i don't think anyone was suggesting one of those players AND the pick......at least i hope not.

i was assuming they were talking about maybe klefbom and the pick, or gagner adn the pick........or something like that.

i wouldn't trade hall/rnh/eberle straight up for that pick, let alone add the #3 pick.
